Hospital Clowns - Humor Therapy

Historically and culturally, clowns have long been associated with the well being of society and the healing arts. It is believed that the hospital of Hippocrates kept troupes of players and clowns, as the doctors of the day believed in ’mood influenced healing’
Today hospital clowns, particularly in pediatric settings, provide a distraction to diffuse some of the anxiety and fear experienced during treatment and long term care, they enable patients and families to laugh at the realities that could too easily make us all weep. With adults hospital clowns bring humor and an empathetic ear often drawing on their own experience with medical treatments.
